Mechanic Job in Richmond, Virginia

I am a 26-year old grad student looking to learn more about some type of skilled labor, preferably auto repair, but I am definitely open to anyone willing to show me the ways of their trade. To be clear, I am not looking for a paid position. I simply want to learn about a trade and assist in any way I can along the way. I am interested in this because I have a great admiration for trade workers, and want to learn a skill that involves working with my hands. As excited as I am to be going back to school to pursue a new degree, I have recently realized that I want to develop skills that are completely separated from academia - ones that deal with the actual physical world rather than with abstract concepts.
