We are seeking a self-motivated and self-reliant Mobile Diesel Mechanic who will travel to our customers' locations to perform emergency roadside repairs on their diesel equipment! As a Mobile Diesel Mechanic, you will inspect and test defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, and checking batteries and lubricating equipment. To perform your duties, you will use test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, and pressure gauges. Throughout your duties, you will provide efficient, quality service without compromising your safety or that of those around you. Mobile Diesel Mechanics are responsible for servicing customer units on road sides in rural areas or in a local area on a lot through the use of a mobile service truck. Specific duties include performing complete preventive maintenance services, patching roofs and floors, replacing air lines, repairing/replacing brakes and brake chambers, changing all lights and minor wiring, plus many other basic repairs. As you no doubt already know, this work requires an individual to be mechanically inclined and able to trouble shoot problems and come up with suitable repair solutions, the ability to climb ladders and scaffolding and crawl underneath trucks and trailers, the ability to perform some overhead lifting when replacing side sheets and roof bow supports, the ability to use both hands and arms when using high power hand tools, saws, grinders, drill, etc., and vision good enough to do bearing inspections and welding. If you are a polished, dependable, and customer focused mechanic we need you. You will need to possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, be able to pass a physical and drug screen, have previous experience working directly with customers in a customer service capacity, and have basic computer skills such as email and data entry. This position is 24 hours on call 7 Days a week 364 days a year, we take New Year’s Eve off at 4pm Est – 4pm Est New Years’ day. Tool Requirements: Rolling Toolbox with Lock, Set of Adjustable Crescent Wrenches, Claw Hammer, Set of Pry Bars, Ratchet Large Ball Peen Hammer, Set of Combination Wrenches, Set of Sockets, Breaker Bar, Set of Pliers Side Cutter, Tri-Square, Rivet Cutter Chisel, Panel Cutter/Claw Ripper, Tapered Punch, Putty Knife Wire Stripper/Crimper, Test Light, Tape or Ruler, Set of Screwdrivers, Vise Grips, Chalk Line Welding Helmet (Non-auto Darkening) Job Requirements Qualified Candidates for The Position Will Have Met the Following: Required: * Equivalent of a high school diploma or GED Must furnish own tools. Valid driver's license. Preferred: Associate's degree in diesel technology, ASE certificate, CDL, Welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience Additional responsibilities of the Mobile Diesel Mechanic include: * Communicating with customers in a clear and courteous manner. * Abiding by all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) specifications. * Attending safety meetings. * Troubleshoot/Diagnose any mechanical, electrical, other breakdown or failure and perform repairs according to generally accepted methods. Discusses extensive or difficult in depth repairs with Supervisor. * Removes components for repair or replacement such as, but not limited to: Alternators, starters, water pumps, radiators, condensers, compressors, clutches, transmissions, differentials, wheel assemblies, brakes, drivelines, gearboxes, pumps, rollers, etc. * Troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic systems, and components. * Inspects and replaces parts such as clutches, wheel seals, brake linings, drums, bearings, and all other components as described above. Overhauls or rebuilds serviceable components. * Performing DOT inspections. Performs routine scheduled maintenance as outlined on PM checklist sheets. * Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical components for removal, repair or inspection. * Routine and preventative maintenance. * Read precision instruments. Micrometers, dial indicators, bored gauges, etc. * Performs occasional cutting and welding utilizing both gas and electric welding equipment. * Ability to use necessary tools. * Other duties may be assigned. * Possess mechanical as well as basic electrical skills. * Will perform clean-up and/or direct his/her crew in the clean-up work as necessary to keep tools, equipment, and working areas clean, orderly, and safe.
