Mechanic Job in King George, Virginia

I'm an
Individual
I have a 1988 Sunbird Corsair with an OMC 4.3L Cobra Sterndrive. I've been reading up on the shift cable problems that OMC had early on and the subsequent recalls that were done before OMC went out of business. Specifically that the bad lower sterndrive shift cable was eating the sterndrive gears. Problem is I don't think that recall was performed on my boat. I bought the boat last year and it's in pretty good shape, but I'm worried that the shift cable is the original. I mean I know the boat is almost 30 years old, but like I said it's in pretty good shape, the motor is strong, and it's all very clean. It runs like a scalded dog, and the only real problem it has is it grinds a little bit going from FWD to REV. I would almost find it unbelievable that these shift cables are the original but they guy said it was garage kept. It looks it. But like I said I have been reading up on it and found this guys website: http://....org/ that explains the complete adjustments for this specific OMC Cobra and gives a lot of explanation as to why it's so important to keep it adjusted and to make sure you don't have the original cable. So what I need is someone who has had REAL experience in working on these older OMC Cobra Sterndrives and more specifically the replacement of the lower sterndrive shift cable (as mine will need it), all the parts you'll need for the job, and how much would it cost for labor. This isn't an easy task from what I have read. The entire outdrive needs to be removed along with the pivot housing, and a very specific adjustment needs to be done specifically for the Cobra outdrives which MAY include breaking the outdrive in half to properly measure of the shift rod height (not sure if mine can be measured and adjusted without breaking the upper from the lower units). If none of that makes sense to you, carry on....but if you're all like I done a million of them things...then you're my man. If you're serious and sincere, you'll have a customer for life as I intend on keeping this boat alive for another 30 years....if this is you, text or email me...doesn't need to be a mobile mechanic thing, I'm willing to bring the boat to your shop/place whichever provided you have the experience...Thanks.
