Effective immediately, applications are being taken and considered for Equipment Mechanic-Road with Jefferds Corporation T/A Homestead Materials Handling, Chesapeake, VA location Essential Functions/Job Requirements Reliable person who is qualified as a first to third class mechanic with thorough knowledge, skills and abilities to service, trouble shoot, repair and rebuild all types of industrial equipment and forktrucks, electric trucks as well as internal combustion; to exercise technical independence in determining work methods and procedures. Must be able to receive assignments verbally or through written instructions without direct supervision, and to independently perform PM's, tests and adjustments on hydraulic systems. Must be trained in basic welding and furnish own hand tools necessary for the classification including personal safety gear such as safety toe shoes, OSHA approved safety prescription glasses, if applicable. Must have a valid drivers' license, a good driving record and be available for road work. This is a safety sensitive position and requires a urine drug screen. Prerequisites/Skills Required 1. Must pass a urine drug screen. 2. Must have 1 to 3 years of experience working in classification. 3. Ability to service, trouble shoot, repair, and rebuild all types of industrial equipment and forktrucks, with emphasis on electric trucks as well as internal combustion. 4. Safety gear such as safety toe shoes, OSHA approved prescription glasses, if applicable. 5. Provide hand tools necessary for classification. 6. Must have valid drivers' license with good driving record and available for roadwork. 7. Basic math and legible handwriting. 8. High school education or equivalent. Education High school education or equivalent with experience and training which provides the required skills and ability to perform the job. Efforts/Physical Demands Requires frequently: standing, lifting of 0-75 lbs., carrying 0-75 lbs., pushing, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, reaching below shoulder level, full use of both hands, good finger dexterity, lifting from floor to waist, twisting of torso, and lying on back under equipment without neck support. Requires occasionally: walking, sitting, reaching above shoulder level, working in extreme heat or cold, and around exhaust fumes.
