Victoria, BC Type of Employment: Full Time– Permanent Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible Job Description: • Perform mechanical disassembly & assembly along with the ability to install mechanical equipment • Set-up and operate a variety of lathes, milling machines and multi-tasking machining centers • Ensure parts are produced to specifications, verify work piece dimensions are correct and made within tolerances • Manually machining and manufacturing quality precision parts from various materials to specified size and shape, based on Work Order, drawings and specifications provided • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed and plan best sequence of operations • Fit and assemble machined metal parts and sub-assemblies using hand and power tools • Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, verniers, dial indicators, etc. • Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments • Set up, operate, and maintain a variety of machine tools to perform precision, machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, drilling; troubleshooting as required • Inspect the machined product; correct any defects • Complete any required documentation and report deviations from specifications • Clean, lubricate and maintain equipment • Contribute to keeping locations in and around the plant clean and hazardous free • Support continuous improvement and quality objectives regarding machine shop procedures and practices Requirements: - Education: Completion of high school is required -Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a machinist in a manufacturing environment or a combination of work experience in the trade and some college or industry courses in machining is required • Proficiency with lathes, milling machines, and drill presses to manufacture and repair components for heavy industry is required Must have steel/metal machinist experience to be considered for the position. • Experience with horizontal and vertical boring mills, as well as line boring is a strong asset • Experience in jobber shop repair environment is a strong asset • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical manuals and drawing, written procedures, and verbal instructions • Ability to manage complex machining tasks with a high level of productivity and accuracy • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment • Ability to follow all Company policies and procedures, including safety • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and/or supervisors with other duties as required • Must possess a current and valid driver’s license to drive to customers’ sites • Work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions - Working Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Physically demanding, Attention to detail, Manual dexterity, Hand-eye coordination, Standing for extended periods, Overtime required, Bending, crouching, kneeling, Handling heavy loads -Personal suitability: Judgement, Dependability, Flexibility, Accurate, Team player, Reliability - Able to lift up to 50 lbs, kneel, climb ladders, and walk on varied terrain Salary: As per the collective agreement base rate of $40.14 per hour. Vacation & Holiday Pay Tool allowance Night Shift Premium Pension. 40 hours per week Benefits: Health and Welfare contribution. Coveralls are provided or a stipend is provided to employees to obtain their own coveralls upon completion of their probationary period. Company vehicle supplied by the employer if needed. Other information: Flexibility in schedule is required. Work schedule: 5 days a week between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm, Monday to Sunday. Overtime and working on holidays will be required.
