Job Description: Heavy Duty Mechanic The Heavy Duty Mechanic repairs, overhauls, maintains and services diesel powered heavy trucks, heavy construction equipment, and pickup trucks. Must be able to diagnoses equipment problems, determine repairs needed and perform required repairs. Be able to work independently as well as work well with others. May be required to do service calls, operate equipment, or perform other duties as assigned. We offer competitive wages, and a friendly work environment. Responsibilities: • Fabricates, constructs, installs, and repairs equipment and machinery • Diagnose equipment problems and determine repairs needed • Performs daily safety and maintenance checks • Repairs, overhauls, services and maintains all diesel powered vehicles including: trucks, heavy construction equipment, trailers (side dumpers and vac. trailers), etc… • Maintains and services fuel injection, exhaust, cooling, air conditioning, lubrication, and engine control systems • Performs major internal engine repairs or overhaul, installation and alignment of engines and machinery • Repairs, overhauls, maintains and services drive trains, hydraulic transmissions, power take-offs, tracked vehicle suspensions and steering, vehicle brake systems, wheel-mounted vehicle suspension and steering • Practices workplace safety • Completion of vocational/technical training and/or5 years on the job experience Knowledge: • Knowledge of DOT safety regulations related to maintenance and OOS compliance • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage procedures • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures • Knowledge of record keeping systems • Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures • Troubleshoot and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions Skills: • Able to work independently and is expected to maintain an agreed towork schedule. • Ability to take direction individually and as a team. • Determine extent of repair required, then make the required repair • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts • Test repaired equipment for proper performance • Clean, lubricate, and perform other maintenance work • Demonstrate analytical, problem solving and decision making skills • Effective verbal and listening communications skills • Ability to read and write to keep daily records including maintenance reports and documentation • Stress & time management skills • Able to weld; gas and AC/DC • Minimum 5 years mechanic experience • Valid Driver’s License with Clean Drivers Abstract WORKING CONDITIONS: The Mechanic has a physically strenuous and demanding job. He/she will be lifting, pulling and managing equipment and tools. The Mechanic will have to work in all weather, and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold. The Mechanic must ensure that all activities are completed in a safe and efficient way.
